Structure fire at CKF Inc. In Hantsport.

Local News

Hantsport Firefighters were alerted of a commercial structure fire at the CKF Inc. in Hantsport on Sunday morning.

Additional mutual aid was requested from Wolfville, Windsor, and Brooklyn Fire Departments.

It was learned that a fire had started from a paper manufacturing machine inside the facility.

Employees on site attempted to extinguish the fire but due to fire conditions, chose to safely evacuate the building prior to the fire department’s arrival.

Hantsport Firefighters arrived on scene, automatically starting an interior fire attack inside the facility.

Deputy Chief Paul Maynard with the Hantsport Fire Department was able to confirm that fire crews had to navigate their way approximately 300 feet inside the building to reach the fire.

Firefighters managed to get the fire knocked down and under control in roughly 15 minutes.

Additional mutual aid crews assisted with checking for extension inside the building resulting in firefighters staying on scene for two hours.

Hazardous materials on site initiated a response from the Kings County Hazmat Team.

It was later learned the hazardous material “container” was used for overflow of product and contained no chemical products.

Two employees were assessed for minor smoke inhalation.

Roughly 50 firefighters assisted on scene during the incident including EHS Paramedics & Nova Scotia Power.

Nova Scotia Public Safety Field Communications were also requested but cancelled prior to arriving on scene.

Greenwich Firefighters also provided standby coverage during the incident.
