At approximately 340PM today, Waterville & District Volunteer Firefighters were alerted to a grass fire in the community of Chipman Brook.
On arrival, a large field was mostly burnt off. There was active fire, but it was moving slowly and not rapidly spreading.
Firefighters worked to knock down flames before reaching a neighbouring field.
“Even though there’s snow on the ground, grass fires are still quite common this time of year.” Stated Waterville Chief, Wayne Johnstone.
Johnstone was able to confirm that the cause of the fire was not believed to be a result of anyone burning, but its source was unknown.
The Nova Scotia Wildfire season begins on Saturday, March 15th. Depending on your county and municipal bylaws, burning will be restricted.
