Early Sunday morning, shortly before 130AM, Margaretsville Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a house fire in the community of Forest Glade.
Prior to the fire department’s arrival, it was reported that a house and a barn were on fire.
On arrival, firefighters were faced with significant fire conditions with a large residential home and barn that were well involved.
Mutual aid was requested with additional assistance with manpower and tankers from Kingston, Middleton, Nictaux, Lawrencetown, Bridgetown, Aylesford, Port Lorne & Berwick Fire Departments.
Thankfully, the occupants inside the home were able to quickly evacuate and there were no reported injuries. All animals were able to safely escape the fire.
Due to the location and temperatures, establishing a water supply was quite tasking. Firefighters worked to protect exposures nearby and aerial operations were underway to knock down significant fire load.
EHS Paramedics, Annapolis District RCMP, Nova Scotia Power & Department of Public Works also assisted on scene.
Annapolis Royal Fire provided stand by coverage at the Middleton Fire Station during the incident, while Aylesford provided stand by coverage at the Kingston Fire Station.
Firefighters were on scene for multiple hours working to fully extinguish the fire with assistance from an excavator.
The home and barn is considered to be a total loss.
