Giving the proper distance between you and a snow plow can make a huge difference to your safety and the safety of the operators while also ensuring our roads are being maintained.

Driving too close behind a snow plow is extremely dangerous and in some cases can result in serious injuries.

Plows are heavy machines using metal blades to remove snow and ice from asphalt. Parts can potentially come loose due to normal wear and tear and debris can be flown that are covered under snow.

You should never pass a snow plow either. Passing a plow, whether it seems safe or not, is highly discouraged.

Operators are constantly navigating challenging conditions when clearing roadways and tend to drive at certain speeds in order to work safely.

Snow plows can only go a certain speed when salting, to ensure the effectiveness of the product that is being spread.

When snow is being removed, heavy amounts of snow are usually obscured by the operator, reducing their visibility when working.

On many occasions, plows make frequent stops, backing up and working in tight spaces. Always be courteous and give yourself space between plows!

Let’s all do our part to be courteous and help our drivers work safely on our roadways!
