Over the next several weeks, 23 firefighters in Kings County will be working to complete their level 1 firefighting certification.
This particular training is vital to structural firefighting, learning key components, such as specific equipment and techniques on the fire grounds.
While all fire departments across the province host weekly training sessions, level 1 training is a separate course done outside of regular in house time.
This course takes a significant amount of time away from family, personal life, and in some cases work, in order to complete the course.
With hands-on material and online training, there are a lot of components included in the course, from basic practices to more in depth material that are taught by local firefighters with the proper qualifications.
Training is paid for by the volunteer fire departments, providing firefighters with a plethora of knowledge and experience.
Wolfville, New Minas, Halls Harbour, Canning, Waterville, Aylesford and Kingston members are all taking part in the program.
The level 1 course is a benefit to the fire departments and the fire service as a whole. As members take the course, their newly acquired skills can be brought back to their departments and utilized.
Working together to successfully complete the certification also allows members to make connections along the way with their neighbouring fire departments.
All the best in the course!
