No injuries following lobster boat fire in Canada Creek.

Local News

Yesterday at approximately 934 AM, Waterville Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a boat on fire in Canada Creek.

Wayne Johnstone, Chief of the Waterville & District Volunteer Fire Department, stated the large fishing vessel was fully involved on his arrival.

Fire Departments from Berwick, Halls Harbour, Kentville & Aylesford also assisted with firefighting efforts.

The fishing boat was tied off to a wharf, and the strong wind and the tides made it challenging for firefighters to battle.

“The biggest challenge was to get to the fuel that was burning,” stated Johnstone.

The fuel tanks were covered and located in the hull of the boat, making it difficult to get to the source of the fire.

Significant amounts of foam were used to ensure the fire was fully extinguished. With the design of the boat and where the fuel was stored, it was a challenge for firefighters.

Firefighters remained on scene for multiple hours until the fire was out.

Johnstone also confirmed that there were no reported injuries as a result of the incident.

Very minimal diesel had spilled from the vessel into the Bay of Fundy. Kings District RCMP along with the Coast Gaurd were also on scene.

Kingston Fire Department also provided stand in coverage for Waterville during the incident.

Chief Johnstone was able to say that work was being done on the boat at the time of the fire.
